Oarfish are the longest known living species of bony fish: the largest confirmed specimen measured 26 feet long; the largest unconfirmed one measured 56 feet long and weighed 600 pounds. The oarfish propels itself forward by rhythmically undulating its dorsal fin that runs the length of its body.
