The 30 year, $10 billion project has the scientific community enraptured as it’s poised to replace Hubble as humanity’s eye on the cosmos. Its first order of business is capturing infrared radiation that’s been travelling for 13 billion years (effectively looking back in time) to observe the earliest stars.
